THE “VILA DE PEDREGUER” COMPOSITION PRIZE

For the dulzaina and organ



“Els Traginers, colla de dolçaines i tabals de Pedreguer”, are delighted to announce the “1st Vila de Pedreguer Composition Prize" 2007 for the dulzaina and organ. Its aim is to strengthen and enrich the musical and cultural heritage of the dulzaina and also encourage composers' creativity, thus increasing the repertoire of original music written for the dulzaina and organ.

Entry requirements are as follows:

  1. The composition must be written for the dulzaina and organ. Percussion may also be included. The score must be original and unpublished.

  2. The competition is open to as many composers and groups of composers who wish to take part.

  3. The pieces will be in freestyle.

  4. The dulzaina instrumentation must be written for a maximum of two voices.

  5. There will be a prize of €4,000.

  6. The closing date and time for composition entries is 23:00 on 2nd November 2007 at the Casa Municipal de Cultura, Glorieta, 14, 03750 Pedreguer. Please be sure to write “I Premio de Composición Vila de Pedreguer” on the envelope.

  7. Entrants must present the following pieces of documentation:

    1. An envelope containing 4 copies of the piece's score and the sheet music of the work, either hand-written or on a computer print-out (in the latter case, please include the magnetic support file in either midi, finale, encore or sibelius format), with a pseudonym.

    2. Separately, and in an envelope sealed with the same pseudonym, please include the composer(s)'s name(s), address, contact telephone number and a short curriculum vitae.

  8. The jury will be composed of individuals of recognised standing and ability in the dulzaina, organ and composition world.

  9. The jury has the right to split or even not award the prize. It may also, where it sees fit, award honourable mentions without financial rewards. The jury's decisions are final.

  10. The jury will announce its decision to the press on 24th November. The awards ceremony will take place at the dulzaina and organ concert to be held on 1st December 2007 at 22:00 in the Church of Santa Cruz de Pedreguer.

  11. The pieces presented that are not awarded prizes will be sent back to the composer's address 30 days after the winners have been announced.

  12. As organizing entity “Els Traginers, colla de dolçaines i tabals de Pedreguer” reserves:

    1. The right to publish the award-winning piece of music, as well as those pieces that may have been awarded honourable mentions, and acquires publishing rights that do not prevent the writers from releasing subsequent publications, provided said publications make mention of the prize or honourable mention awarded.

    2. Recording rights to the above pieces.



Participation in the competition implies knowledge and acceptance of the present requirements by all entrants. For this reason these requirements cannot be challenged once you have been formally entered into the competition. The competent bodies, in each case, will be authorised to resolve any queries and take the necessary steps to ensure that the competition proceeds in line with the present requirements.
